VENUS

inVestigation of distributEd propulsion Noise and its mitigation through wind tUnnel experiments and numerical Simulations

VENUS (official site link) aims to understand the physics behind the aeroacoustics and aerodynamics of DEP (Distributed Electric Propulsion) through a deep numerical and experimental wind tunnel study. Appropriate procedures will be implemented to evaluate wind tunnel noise and to identify the parameters that influence it; noise reduction technologies will also be studied. The final objective of the VENUS project is to support the design of a new regional aircraft configuration, focusing on the study of a wing and the installation of the engines (nacelle), in order to aim at an optimized Distributed Electric Propulsion in terms of aerodynamic and acoustic performance. The experimental data and documents produced during the project will be public, with the aim of establishing an "open bench test" for the entire European scientific community.
