Diagnostica AVanzata su ENdoreattori e PROpellente Solido
Thrust generation in the first stages of spacecraft is achieved through the use of solid fuels energized with aluminum particles. Understanding the size and velocity of these particles when they are ejected is of strategic importance to space launch vehicle manufacturers. These two pieces of information make it possible to characterize the combustion stability, the thrust generated, and the erosion of the nozzle throat.
The DAVENPROS project involved the realization of a scale test bench simulating the launch conditions of a solid propellant endo-reactor and the construction of a smart sensor for measuring two components of alumina particle velocity and size.
The sensor will be tested on two different test cases set up to validate the innovative measurement technique.
NHOE Srl was involved in the design and construction of the experimental setup, which includes a premixed and swirl burner placed inside a pressure chamber to carry out the tests on the optical sensors.
