The tool was designed as a production fixture for the manufacturing of composite shims used in the flexible joint of solid rocket motor nozzles.
It consists of a “mushroom-shaped” mold, specifically developed to ensure proper forming of the component and to enable accurate subsequent machining operations. In particular, the tool allows precise edge turning, ensuring the required geometrical and dimensional tolerances for correct integration of the shim into the joint assembly.
This production tooling was therefore used to manufacture the shims required for the flexible joint, guaranteeing repeatability, dimensional accuracy, and compliance with the technical requirements of the system.
