Design and Manufacturing of a pitch-Oscillating System for gurney flap testing
(Companies participating in the consortium: NHOE Srl, Revoind Industriale Srl, Step Sud Mare Srl)
The present research activity was funded by CleanSky Joint Undertaking within the FP7, then Horizon2020 research and development programme of the European Union.
The activity focuses on the study of the dynamic stall phenomenon that affects the manoeuvrability of helicopters and aircraft.
One of the most promising solutions for delaying the dynamic stall phenomenon is the use of an Active Gurney flap, the study of which will be the main activity of this R&D programme.
The main innovative aspects of the research concern the wide operating range in terms of reduced frequency and Mach number, and the integration of a system equipped with an Active Gurney Flap capable of reproducing different laws of motion to be tested in a wind tunnel, fully controlled remotely.
